What is the average job application answering time?

I sent my resume and cover letter via yahoo hotjobs about two weeks ago. I got a notification email from human resource center of the company about that "they will consider my submission" in last week. I wonder that when can I learn the result. Should I call them? Thanks.. I can't send e-mail to the company. They accept cover letters and resumes only via hotjobs or their own online application system. They read no mail or job application letters that sent, except these ways.

1. You should send a follow up email and reattach your resume. Tell them in the email that you are still very interested in the position and would like to schedule an interview at their earliest convienence
2. Couldn't hurt to call to check on your app. Response time is in direct proportion to their need. I reccomend that you call after the first two weeks and then once a month after that. Here's a tip, be very polite to whoever is answering the phone, some companies use this as a test when you call. It does not hurt to be nice. GOOD LUCK
3. If u get answers in 2-4 weeks than u hv a chance but nowadays, company keep resumes for later employment as weel, keep on trying on other job as well.

5. An average job application answering time is about 1 week. You got a notification from HR department is to inform you they have received your application and may consider your application only. If HR department does not get back to you after one week, that means you are not been selected for an interview Normally, if you have been selected, you will be receiving a call from HR department within a week and they will fixed an appointment with you for an interview. Already two weeks over, that means you are not been selected. So you should not call them.
