How long / How much will a large website take? I realize that websites are vastly different, however I was hoping to get at least an idea. I want to set up a website that has user registration, a forum, resource center, and possibly a store. I realize that it's still a bit vague but needless to say it will be pretty complex. What I am really trying to ask is would getting a website designed such as this cost over $10,000? And do projects similar to this ever take over a year? Thanks for your help.
Is the "200-Mile Diet" the best weapon in the Battle Against Climate Change? In a public forum, an author claimed that 60% of oil is used for food, in one way or another, including storage of food (i.e. fridges.) In another Climate Change forum, Prof. Reese of UBC claimed that every lb. of kiwi from Australia to Vancouver brings 16 lbs. of carbon into the atmosphere. If both statements are true, then the Battle Against Climate Change can only be won by changing our eating habits (i.e. forget cycling, electric cars, etc. in saving energy.) Info about the 200-Mile Diet can be found by Google. Its been revived as the "100-Mile-Diet" in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Any thoughts? Shall we start growing our own kiwi in Vancouver? (Yes, a friend gets 200 lbs. of BC kiwi yearly, and he could grow even more, just in his back yard. They also grow in the Niagara region of Ontario.) This information would be useful for students of the Solar Power Roadshow, who are building a model city of the future, at Silbury School & Resource Centre.

DELL Laptop Issues! Help please!?!? I have a Dell Studio 1535 Laptop. I have only had it for one year (it is not under warranty anymore, and Dell will not compromise with me unless I pay for tech support) and I have been having quite a few issues. Well my webcam is not working I tried reinstalling the correct driver for my computer and every time I do the installation gets to 90% and then a screen says there has been an error and the camera will not work Then when I open Dell Webcam Center it says "Please Plug-in a supported webcam". I also never received a Dell Resource CD with my computer so I have ran out of ideas and options. Now I have another problem: My computer charger will not work! The brick gets very hot to the point where it is unbearable to touch (my computer too) every time I plug it in. I've plugged it in several different outlets to make sure it wasn't the one I was using, but it would still not give a charge. All my work, family videos, pictures and info is stored on this one computer! The little charger light won't turn on and even when I switched up parts from my sisters charger, the charger still wound not work. I think it is possibly garbage now. Personally I think Dell is shit based on my experience with their support, my laptop experience and from reading reviews and problems posted on several forums. I don't know where to turn because I am on a tight budget. How can I fix my Dell Integrated Webcam? Should I buy a new charger? Also should I wait till I have enough money to buy a new laptop (possibly a Mac)? Please answer if you believe you might have a solution. Thanks so much!

How much do you know? Knowledgeable News Audiences News audiences vary widely in age, education, and how much they know about what's going on in the nation and the world. Most regular consumers of news are better informed, better educated, and older than the average American. But the audiences for some news sources stand out in this respect. Judged by their answers to three news knowledge questions2, the most informed audiences belong to the political magazines, Rush Limbaugh's radio show, the O'Reilly Factor, news magazines, and online news sources. Audiences with the highest educational achievement, by far, are the literary magazines and online news outlets. Readers of news magazines, political magazines and business magazines, listeners of Rush Limbaugh and NPR. Some of these attentive and educated audiences also are older than average. The oldest audiences belong to the NewsHour (60% age 50 or older), the O'Reilly Factor (58%), Larry King Live (56%), network nightly news (54%), and Sunday morning talk shows (52%). Problem trying to boot Windows XP Media Centre from CD? The problem first started when i attempt a duel boot from one hard drive useing Windows XP Media Center and Unix Kubuntu. Should have known better than to play around, story of my life i guess. First thing i done was boot Unix Kubuntu live CD, then it asks me if i would like to install, which i said yes. Then it goes on to set up time and passwords etc, then last stage was to partition the hard drive which i made a complete big woooper dooper mess off. Stupid numpty me asked it to completely clear the hard drive for instalation of Unix Kubuntu, thought not a big loss i will just reinstall XP Media (HA HA). Only to find that the PC was pre installed with an OEM Windows XP Media Edition. s#!? Next step was ask a friend to borrow his XP disk, (that was a copy) but it would not boot from cd. Thought it must be an upgrade disk or something. So i thought my next step was to download it from torrent site demonoid which i did. This is what the uploader said. Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 OEM Hi this is the origional OEM install discs for Windows XP Media Center Edition2005 . This is in .iso fromat and is unaltered just ripped straight to iso This contains 3 discs in iso format I will not Provide any serial numbers or carcks for this software, I am providing this file as a resource as i have found it very difficult to obtain the origional discs for reloading clients computers as System builders tend not to provid the OEM disks with the computers anymore. Hope this can help any IT technicians or home users wanting to reaload from scratch. I will say again i am not providing any serials or cracks with this software so do not ask me and do not use the forum to ask and only use this disk to install on system which have the relevant windows COA on the side. I know it's ilegal to download such material but my moto is its better to ask forgiveness than to ask permition. (Sorry if this ofends anyone always been a rouge) So i download and burnt to disk and gave it a bash (not as in bash through around room) shoor enough would not boot from disk . So then i went into bios to check it was booting from correct rom drive, which it was. So i checked the XP downloaded disks on laptop to see if it would boot and it did. The next step was buy another hard drive which i installed, then boot from XP disk again, still nothing just black screen as before. So i tried Kubuntu cd a that did boot from cd. Think i have covered everything that i have done any help wiill be greatful. ps. does anyone know of good online shop for purchese of origanal Windows XP Media Edition if i need to Could i use this http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.aspx?Quicklinx=4BG3&CategorySelectedId=11168&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11168,402950000&InMerch=1 OR http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?origin=gbase9&prodID=B54890
Wikipedia Installation for creating online reference library and a forum.? OS : Windows XP Media Center with SP2 Web Server: IIS 5.1 My purpose is to install and use wikipedia as a base for my colloborative online consultancy website. I have downloaded wikipedia latest and PHP 5.x latest recently. I donot know whether my PHP installation is successful or not. I could be able to open http://localhost from IE 5.1, but not in Mozilla FireFox after installing it. I need to confirm PHP installation before proceeding to wikipedia installation. I have already completed wikipedia installation as per procedure. But nothing seems to happenning. I also require some resources to start a feature like Yahoo!Answers (but not RSS Feeds please) and also a online library for reference, a forum, on linux server. I thought wikipedia is a better platform, but open to other solutions also.
What is the main point of "In defense of talks shows" by barbara ehrenreich? UP UNTIL NOW, THE TARGETS OF BILL (THE BOOK OF Virtues) Bennett's crusades have at least been plausible sources of evil. But the latest victim of his wrath--TV talk shows of the Sally Jessy Raphael variety--are in a whole different category from drugs and gangsta rap. As anyone who actually watches them knows, the talk shows are one of the most excruciatingly moralistic forums the culture has to offer. Disturbing and sometimes disgusting, yes, but their very business is to preach the middle-class virtues of responsibility, reason and self-control. Take the case of Susan, recently featured on Montel Williams as an example of a woman being stalked by her ex-boyfriend. Turns out Susan is also stalking the boyfriend and--here's the sexual frisson--has slept with him only days ago. In fact Susan is neck deep in trouble without any help from the boyfriend: she's serving a yearlong stretch of home incarceration for assaulting another woman, and home is the tiny trailer she shares with her nine-year-old daughter. But no one is applauding this life spun out of control. Montel scolds Susan roundly for neglecting her daughter and failing to confront her role in the mutual stalking. A therapist lectures her about this unhealthy "obsessive kind of love." The studio audience jeers at her every evasion. By the end Susan has lost her cocky charm and dissolved into tears of shame. The plot is always the same. People with problems--"husband says she looks like a cow," "pressured to lose her virginity or else," "mate wants more sex than I do"--are introduced to rational methods of problem solving. People with moral failings--"boy crazy," "dresses like a tramp," "a hundred sex partners"--are introduced to external standards of morality. The preaching--delivered alternately by the studio audience, the host and the ever present guest therapist--is relentless. "This is wrong to do this," Sally Jessy tells a cheating husband. "Feel bad?" Geraldo asks the girl who stole her best friend's boyfriend, "Any sense of remorse?" The expectation is that the sinner, so hectored, will see her way to reform. And indeed, a Sally Jessy update found "boy crazy," who'd been a guest only weeks ago, now dressed in schoolgirlish plaid and claiming her "attitude [had] changed"--thanks to the rough-and-ready therapy dispensed on the show. All right, the subjects are often lurid and even bizarre. But there's no part of the entertainment spectacle, from Hard Copy to Jade, that doesn't trade in the lurid and bizarre. At least in the talk shows, the moral is always loud and clear: Respect yourself, listen to others, stop beating on your wife. In fact it's hard to see how The Bill Bennett Show, if there were to be such a thing, could deliver a more pointed sermon. Or would he prefer to see the feckless Susan, for example, tarred and feathered by the studio audience instead of being merely booed and shamed? There is something morally repulsive about the talks, but it's not anything Bennett or his co-crusader Senator Joseph Lieberman has seen fit to mention. Watch for a few hours, and you get the claustrophobic sense of lives that have never seen the light of some external judgment, of people who have never before been listened to, and certainly never been taken seriously if they were. "What kind of people would let themselves be humiliated like this?" is often asked, sniffily, by the shows' detractors. And the answer, for the most part, is people who are so needy--of social support, of education, of material resources and self-esteem--that they mistake being the center of attention for being actually loved and respected. What the talks are about, in large part, is poverty and the distortions it visits on the human spirit. You'll never find investment bankers bickering on Rolonda, or the host of Gabrielle recommending therapy to sobbing professors. With few exceptions the guests are drawn from trailer parks and tenements, from bleak streets and narrow, crowded rooms. Listen long enough, and you hear references to unpaid bills, to welfare, to 12-hour workdays and double shifts. And this is the real shame of the talks: that they take lives bent out of shape by poverty and hold them up as entertaining exhibits. An announcement appearing between segments of Montel says it all: the show is looking for "pregnant women who sell their bodies to make ends meet." This is class exploitation, pure and simple. What next--"homeless people so hungry they eat their own scabs"? Or would the next step be to pay people outright to submit to public humiliation? For $50 would you confess to adultery in your wife's presence? For $500 would you reveal your 13-year-old's girlish secrets on Ricki Lake? If you were poor enough, you might. It is easy enough for those who can afford spacious homes and private therapy to sneer at their financial inferiors and label their pathetic moments of stardom vulgar. But if I had a talk show, it would feature a whole different ca
Do You Rent Movies or Actually Go To the Movies .....? I prefer to go to the movies but I work so many hours at Federal Express I can't seem to find the time to get there. I have to watch 2 or 3 movies a week so I rent them. I watched Iron Man http://gizmodo.com/assets/resources/2007/07/ironman.jpg and Pathfinder http://www.hh-forums.com/MoviePosters/PathFinder.jpg on Sunday. Iron Man was pretty tight! I'm going to watch Brendan Frasier's Journey to the Center of the Earth http://moviesmedia.ign.com/movies/image/article/844/844607/journey-to-the-center-of-the-earth-20080109043738856_640w.jpg and something called Mongol the rise of Genghis Khan http://www.blogto.com/upload/2008/06/20080606-mongol.jpg today. What have you gone to see or rented recently? Thumbs up to all answers. Thanks!
How Do You Feel About RuneScape? Simple question, really. But it wouldn't be a question of mine without an obnoxiously long and poorly written background story on my part, so you understand why I'm asking this question...: My RuneScape career started when I was in late elementary or middle school. I had never even heard of the game until my dad moved to a small town in mid-Michigan, and a few of the local kids came over and introduced themselves to me, and we quickly became good friends. After going to visit their homes a few times, I noticed a game that one of my friends kept playing often - some funny little online game. I thought it looked rather dull, even as a young kid, but they all encouraged me to give it a shot. After much persuading, I finally moved on to RuneScape, which was my first "real" online game, not including Red Alert 2 online. It took me a while to get into the game - I found the lack of help and resources to be frustrating, and one my friends blew his top when I forgot my password and therefore lost the steel armour that he had worked so hard to get me. Eventually, I just created a new account, and started to play on that when the weather was poor outside. There began my long, cold descent into the idiocy that is Jagex's most popular game. Back in those days, my dad only had dial-up, and my mom (Who I lived with on the weeks) didn't have Internet at all. So I only played RuneScape on the weekends... It started out that I'd play RuneScape in the morning, level up a few skills, and talk to some friends. Soon it developed into an almost obsessive hobby, going to the point where my dad almost had to cut the Internet cord every morning or night to get me off the computer. But it was mostly harmless, since I still played AirSoft with friends, played Army, and all the other things that younger kids like to do. My harmless love affair with RuneScape turned much more serious in my 7th grade year of school when my mom and step-dad decided to get cable Internet - meaning that I'd have Internet access all day, every day. So I started playing, more and more, almost every day. By my 8th grade year in school, I was playing and posting on the Forums from the time that I got home from school until I went to bed. My grades, which used to be perfect, slipped from all As to a mixture of As, Bs, and Cs, to a few As and a few Ds and Fs. Soon I started using the Forums more than the actual game, though I managed to get 99 in a skill, something I am very ashamed of these days. Things started to calm down once I got an Xbox 360 and Call of Duty 4, which distracted me quite well from RuneScape... I guess it was just that I had found a game that was actually pretty good, and took a decent amount of skill. I pretty much completely ceased playing RuneScape my freshman year in high school, choosing to play Xbox 360 games instead. The summer after, I got myself into a wee bit of trouble with the police, and ended up in a "detention center" for a few weeks, rather luckily for me - if I had been an adult, I would have been in prison for the rest of my life. My parents, being responsible folk, locked away my keyboard and controller, but I can't say that I cared much... After being on house arrest for almost half a year, I was happy to get away from all that, and just start enjoying school and being with my friends. While I was on house arrest, I started playing RuneScape again, and got my cooking level from 70 to 96 or so, and quite a few other skills up higher. I saved up and bought another Xbox 360 for Christmas, and my RuneScape habit was stopped in tracks once again before it could gain any more speed. Now I view myself as a fairly normal person, besides from the fact that most of my days are spent doing community service (I want to be finished by the end of this month). I still play lots of World at War and whatnot, but that comes second to just about everything else. Sometimes I miss messing around on the RuneScape Forums (I had probably 30,000 posts, but I got permanently banned from them by being a jackass while I was on house arrest), and I jump on the game once every few days, but I can never occupy and enjoy myself on it like I used to. I think I realized how much of a waste of time the game was when I was in late middle school or my freshman year in high school... Pretty much all I was doing was chatting to random people for hours on end while watching a poorly animated and pixelated figure bend over fishing spots and making bows for hours on end. There just doesn't seem to be any skill involved in the game whatsoever - at least, not any more. Instead of the best being on top of the scoreboards, it's just a competition of who pours the most time into the game, and who can cheat the longest without getting caught. Even player-killing isn't much of a challenge or fun any more - you point, click, and watch your character hack away at the other guy while you stare at your health and munch on a few sharks, and hop
Adoptees: Supports for abuse? Hi, everyone. :-) Adoptees, I'm hoping you can help me, and possibly someone else. I know someone from an entirely different forum, who was abused, but I found out today that her abuse was perpetrated by her adoptive parents (didn't know she was adopted until today). Is there a specific internet source or any books for adoptees who have been abused by their a'families? I'd like to pass on some info...This forum is not adoption-centred, so she so far has had no suggestions for resources. Thanks a lot.
Is the credibility of Christian (OK some Christian) dialogue at risk? There are certainly many “moral” issues and problems currently facing Christians and the Christian community. (And all communities). Like poverty, homeless children, child abuse, spousal abuse, rampant drug problems and selling of dangerous drugs to minors, not to mention the 50% divorce rate and extreme disregard of commitment and self-giving in intimate relationships. Yet it would seem that on this forum, gay marriage -- an issue in fact involving people who only WANT love, commitment, and self-giving in their sexual and intimate relationships -- seems to take center stage. And one would think -- from seeing all the script here concerning this issue -- about the most important religious issue now at hand. Is this a really the most important issue we (and Christians) believe we are faced with? Should our churches spend so much of their limited resources “fighting” gay marriage, when so many more important issues are at hand? I would invite answers from those with opposing opinions. Thank you ANDY. I too tend to get polarized.
tariff and trade restrictions at Greatest colas? answer :- Thank you for the opportunity to present my views on tariff and trade restrictions before you. As you all know that Greatest colas is one of the World’s largest producers of aerated beverages in the world, being the industry leader and having a major presence around the world, our company has to follow a number of rules and regulations to comply with many international trade laws. As said by Jeffry Sachs the Director of Center for International Trade at Harvard University. ”Fifteen percent of world population provides all world’s technology innovation one half follows it, rest is not aware of these things”, Today when globalization has become a rapid phenomena bringing forth that paradigm shift thus knitting the world to form a global village there is no survival if cutoff from the rest of the world as no nation is self-sufficient, be it in terms of technology or resources. Trading augments this growing relationship liquidating the herculean task of meeting needs exponentially increasing availability when coming to choosing things. The whole world has become a well connected market threaded by supply chain management engaged in mutually beneficial exchanges. Tariffs and Trade restrictions play an active role in controlling the industries and also pacing the world economy. Tariff is a tax on goods when they move from one country to another. Tariff is for the revenue purpose and protecting industries. Tariffs are two types protective and revenue tariffs. A tariff is paid for by the buyers of the foreign goods and the buyers of domestic goods who pay higher prices. The Tariff commission sets the tariff. The HTS of the United States was enacted by congress and made effective on 1 Jan 1989, replacing the former Tariff Schedules of the US. Tariff helps to raise the price of the imported product and helps the domestic products of similar nature to be sold at higher costs but they reduce exports. The various models for acquisition and reaching Global market for global business expansion are multinational enterprise, foreign representation, licensing, franchising, joint ventures, strategic alliance, foreign direct investment, subsidiary and contract manufacturing. In a franchise agreement, the franchisee pays the franchisor for a license to use trademarks, formulas and other trade secrets. There is a freedom to adapt their products to meet the needs of the market. Contract manufacturing is when a foreign countries production of a private label good to which a domestic country attaches its trade mark. Joint ventures is a mode of expansion involving two or more parties. They share technologies, market management expertise allows a foreign market where normally they would not be allowed but for the risk of breaking of agreement by any of the partner and the inflexibility involved due to vastness of spheres involved. International trade has a lot of benefits but still many nations have their own reasons in putting restrictions on trade. A Quota is a restriction on the quality of importing goods. It actually creates a shortage which leads to the cost of the goods going up and allowing the domestic producers to increase their prices and production. A Quota on watches, might limit foreign made watches to 50000000 pairs a year. If American buy 100000000 each year, this would leave most of the market to American producers. Embargo is another trade restriction. Trade restrictions thus shift production from more effective exporting producers to less effective domestic producers. World trade is limited but industries get protected within countries. For the world economy to strengthen free trade is very essential and for the national economy to strengthen there must be enough import only then there will be export. The WTO created on 1Jan 1995.It was to replace the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade or GATT.WTO is a forum with 153 nations as members where trade agreements are negotiated between governments. Radical right-wingers giving Libertarians a bad name? As a libertarian, I find it terribly annoying when people associate my political beliefs with that of neoconservatives, radical far-right religious fanatics and all the other hideous manifestations in-between. This has carried over into the tea part movement, where good, honest citizens of every political, social, and religious affiliation are portrayed by the media as a bunch of rednecks picketing government centers and town halls. Just for the sake of a possible forum war, I'm a social progressive that also believes in a free/fiscally responsible market, a small but secular government, and the end of foreign dependence on energy resources ect. And frankly, I'm sick of being thrown in with either delusional conservatives or "rebel turned federalist" liberals.. these people are completely out of touch with everyday Americans, and both need to be hear our voices. Forgive me my rant, what do you guys think? First two answers- You clearly don't know what a libertarian is, look it up instread of consulting biased sources. Libertarians believe in social freedom, and low government interference in a person's day to day life. I can be social progressive, any educated person can see injustices in society and demand change. Left Wing moron- No sir, Che does not rock and any reasonable person can make their own decision without being influenced by biased sources, left or right leaning. I'm refectly aware of the socio-political termonology Jamie, but radical is used often to describe extremism, or violence as means of achieving a set of principles or socio-political agendas. Well, good luck with globalism, I'm sure you'll be free to choose in world economy controlled by such states as China, and Russia. Isolationism is not something all libertarians belive in, but self sufficiency to at reasonable extent is a must for any soverign nation. Not to go all 1984 on you, but I simply cannot trust "big brother", on a national or global scale.

Is there an online forum or group for people learning to read and write music? I'm teaching myself- with limited resources, thus far- how to both read and write music. This has been something I have deeply wanted to do for a very long time, and now I'm doing it finally. But I have lots of music questions and it would probably be more appropriate for me to ask those questions to some kind of online group centered around music- especially music writing. Anyone know of a good place online that could be helpful for a complete, but desperate :), amateur of music writing?? (And I'm in the habit of asking a LOT of questions, so it should be a group that will accept that, of course.) ;) ;) ;) Thanks!!
